The Pink Quilt

I have a finished quilt and I like it. Which is a really nice surprise given how little I cared for it during the making.

The Pink Quilt, 54″ x 58″

This is the only quilt I’ve made from a kit and, because 2 of the fabrics are different from the store’s sample, I was less than enthused as soon as I opened the package. Then, for most of the 1.5 years(!) it took me to do the quilting, I dreaded working on it. Okay, some of that might have been because I bought a new sewing machine and we were just getting acquainted, but still. I could hardly motivate myself to finish the job.

The quilt sandwich. You can see the sheet I used to protect the floor from the basting spray, sticking out from behind the quilt.

Once I trimmed the extra batting and backing, I really liked it. It’s amazing how my perception of the quilt shifted once the ragtag edge was cut away. One decision I’m really happy with is the choice of a blue binding. I think it helps the whole thing pop.

I used a printed fabric on the back, figuring that someone who really liked the front might be bored with a solid back. I’m second-guessing this now, wondering if a “restful” solid fabric might have been a better option. After all, there’s no way to escape the pink frenzy, whether the quilt is folded right, or wrong, side out. Oh well.

I haven’t yet decided what to do with this quilt and hope that whoever gets it (a girl, I imagine) will like it as much as I do.

  1. I think it is all that is perfect about Kaffe, riotous loud colour! It’s funny… but still to this day if someone described Kaffe’s fabrics to me I would say that I would hate them, but I love them with a mad passion!

    • For me the weird thing is that I am not a huge fan of most of these fabrics, but I love them together. In fact, it took all my self control not to buy a bunch more of them. Anf if there were more fabrics in the yellow colourway, I would have caved.
